The cheesecake filling consists of a mixture of soft cheeses, like cottage cheese or cream cheese with eggs and sugar and may be flavored in different ways. Vanilla, spices, lemon, chocolate, pumpkin, or other flavors may be added to the main cheese layer. In addition nuts, frozen fruits, fruit sauce, chocolate syrup, etc. may be added or used as a topping for decoration.
The bottom layer most often consists of a crumb base made from crushed cookies.
Usually metal baking rings are used for producing Cheesecakes, but also rectangular shapes and baking trays may be used. Cheesecakes can easily be frozen to extend the shelf life.
